I was a part of a very special homecoming in El Campo, Texas on Sunday August 1, 2010 as a USO Kid. We had a private welcome home for the soldiers from the 72nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion. The battalion’s Charlie company returned from an 8-month tour in Iraq as part of one of the largest deployments of the Texas Army National Guard since World War II. While overseas, the unit primarily performed enemy detainee management, and was instrumental in the transfer of control of several large facilities from the US-led coalition to the government of Iraq. (Video clip/72nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Army National Guard Maj. Adam Collett). They were a part of guarding some of the most violent terrorist at Camp Bucca.
